Anyhow, hope to see you around our hood!
Pardon my ignorance but what do you mean by "co-ops"?

Default You own it but everybody owns it

It is where you own it but everybody owns a right to the community as well. For example, if you're neighbor is convicted of a felony he can be kicked out. Or if you break the noiserequirement you can be kicked out. It's like you own a right to your place for as long as you follow the rules and can pass it on. There is one Here in LS, advantage: lower capital cost up front, more square footage, no chance of annoying neighbors.

Disadvantage: high monthly fees, risk that you could be kicked out if you get a felony or have lous frequent parties, or dont clean your windows for a year straight, etc.

Sounds like a double-edged sword.

The city has programs (like CPAN) to assist people that have lower incomes and need affordable housing that are looking to buy. If you are a senior there are even more programs out there. The catch is you have to be a city resident first. The other thing is these condos rarely are below 140k. Sometimes smaller ones pop up for lower. So find an apartment and go from there.

Default Is Logan Square safe to live ?

I am planning on moving to Logan Square in early April. But from some people I heard that it was a place considered criminal. Is this true ? How safe is the region ?

Below are links to threads discussing Logan Square, hopefully they will answer any questions you might have about it. My brief summary is this: People who are new to urban living (I don't know if this includes you or not) should consider living elsewhere until they have fine-tuned their tolerance for urban living conditions. The closer you are to Logan Boulevard, the better, and east of Kedzie is notably better than west. The western fringe if Logan Square is a war zone.
