You mention you DJ -- you'll definitely want to check out
Smart Bar , which has resident DJs and national acts (saw Glitch Mob last night). The aesthetic is techno house, underground hip-hop and occasionally goth/industrial.
And of course there's the infamous
Metro (next door to Smart Bar) -- arguably the best music venue in Chicago. I'm seeing the Manic Street Preachers there in October. If you move here, it's only a matter of time until you see a show there.
Chicago is a great place. You'll really come alive here and feel inspired. All the best to you.

As an alternative to Lake View and Lincoln Park, try Bucktown or Wicker Park as a newcomer, then branch out into the less yuppified hipster hoods. Lot's of 22-year-olds over there too.
