Hello all, I'm new to these Forums and I was wondering what it would be like to drive from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Chicago. Me and my girlfriend are looking to come down and catch a Bears game and possibly a Cubs or Blackhawks game. Where would you recommend staying and what would be good to see while we're there? Also, what areas would you avoid staying away from? We're not the biggest party goers, but we do like nice scenery. I'm also a huge sports nut, so this is why we would like to go there. In honesty, we were thinking between Chicago and Denver, but Chicago is definitely more of a sports town. Lastly. would it be better to stay near Soldier Field or should we stay more on the outskirts and taxi it from there? Thanks for the help in advance!

Well, unless the Cubs make it to the Playoffs, there's no way you can see the Cubs, Hawks and Bears on the same weekend. The Hawks and Bears you could do in October, but its pretty safe to say the Cubs wont be around come October. lol You could come in mid-September and catch a Bears pre-season game and a Cubs game, but you'd miss out on the Hawks.

If I were you, Id stay somewhere downtown. You can walk to the UC on Madison St., take a bus to Soldier Field, and the EL to Wrigley.

I think Steve-o has the time frame correct, but I would say maybe stay someplace where I could WALK to Solider Field for Bears game in late summer / early fall and rely on public transportation for the other venues. Of course you would have to pay a pretty penny for tickets to those games and for parking, not too mention an awful lot of driving... Google says that is over 860 miles. from: chicago IL to: Winnipeg, MB, Canada - Google Maps

Well we're looking for a road trip. Our other options are Denver, Minneapolis and Green Bay for games. Minneapolis is the closest, but we go there often and want some change.

Doesn't the football season start just before Labor Day, around the end of August?

How hard is it to get tickets? I'm probably looking at the Pittsburgh game if we are to come down there.

Buying Bears tickets is incredibly difficult. They go quickly. The Pittsburgh game will only be tougher. There is always Stub Hub which I have found to be very good. Tickets are usually cheaper as the game nears, at least that's what I have seen in my experiences.

All teams in MLB play in October this year for the end of the regular season. The Cubs are at home September 29 to October 4 to close the reg season.

Bears are at home October 4th.

Hawks are TBA.

I am pretty sure it can be pulled off.
