Hey everyone-

I just came across a listing for a place in Logan Square. I plan on walking around the neighborhood to get a feel for it but I wanted to also get other viewpoints.

I am looking for an area that is conveniently located to many modes of transportation. I also want a place that will be in an appreciating area. I am always in Chicago (westside) for school and for clubs so I want to be more centrally located. I am familiar with places the south side moreso.

Overall I am looking for an area that is somewhat diverse, affordable, various classes, relatively safe, and although I hate to say it, here goes...the next "hot spot" -(and not for crime). Again- I have lived in a variety of places that aren't completely safe but I try to stay aware of my surroundings. I just don't want to constantly be subject to gunshots, drugdealing etc...

Thanks-

If you want to live in Logan Square, I would stay near Logan Blvd. That is the safest part of Logan Square.

It IS up and coming... so there is crime and drugs and it's cheap... but it is pretty safe depending on which part of Logan Square you live in.

I live in logan square going on 5 years. There is not much to do here but it is very close to other hoods that do have more action, such as wicker park. It's close to the Blue line which is a huge plus. Also easy to get on/off the expressway. I live in a beautiful classic greystone with a big backyard and pay only $900/mo for a 3 bedroom. It's cheap and like the above poster said, stay by Logan Blvd and you'll be ok. I'm inwards a bit and the street over from me is pretty shady, but mine is fairly quiet.

People have been saying that "its getting better" and although it is, it is going very slowly.

Logan Square's on my hit-list too if I HAVE to live within Chicago city limits...given its location, it almost HAS to be the next "it" part of town...

LS is a pretty good neighborhood, I have lived there for a while. Here is my take: stick to either: A) A place directly on the historic boulevards B) A place directly on the Squares, aka, Logan or Palmer Square C) a Place on: Armitage, Kedzie, Shakespeare, Palmer(s) St, or California, or Miluakee itself. Try to stick near a blue line police station or school if possible.

what's the address? It's a pretty big neighborhood.

I lived there for 3 years fresh out of Iowa and absolutely loved the area. It's more quiet, but if you're along the Blvd's it's very easy to get to the blue line, and a beautiful area. I never once felt in danger in the area, but you have to know where you are at all times. Chicago's quirky in that traveling only a few blocks can change your situation imensely.

I've lived in Logan Square for four years and think it is a good area, especially if you stick to areas along the main streets that samsamuelson1 listed. Also, the further south and east you are in Logan Square the safer it is. The area bounded by Fullerton, Armitage, Western, and California is fine, and a lot of new bars and restaurants are opening close to the California and Western El stops.
