Grade school or high school? And also what's your budget? There are many good ones but they don't necessarily come cheap.

Both. Budget is not an issue. Best Quality in education is the big factor. Smaller teacher to pupil ration is good, too. Thanks. .

I am unaware of any specific ranking for parochial schools. Many do make their test scores available to those 'shopping'. I am familiar with the schools associated with Old St. Pat's, run as Frances Xavier Warde, might be a good start...

What, don't kids just go to the school of whatever parish they live in? Are people moving into a parish because they like the school?

Francis Xavier Warde is affiliated with two parishes--Holy Name and Old St. Pat's. They split it up by age group. But the best Catholic high school by far is St. Ignatius. The faculty there consider the junior and senior years to be equivalent to college.

A lot of people also swear by Mt. Carmel and St. Benedict's.

Yeah, I know Iggies, they threw me out after two years, I finished at Austin which at the time was a pretty good school. To tell the truth I think the teachers at Austin were just as good as those at Iggies. But that was some time ago, seems a different world.

Some of the finest people I know did two years at Iggies or Fenwick.

St Ignatious is pretty tough to beat for high school. Of course, its pretty tough to get in to. Fenwick is outstanding as well, which is in Oak Park.

Personally, I served time at Nazareth in La Grange. Of course, shortly thereafter graduating I denounced Catholicism and have pretty much been an athiest/agnostic since then

Reg. Ignatius, not only is the education great, but the social component of the school is priceless. Even though I graduated 15 years ago, I have maintained a great network of friends that support each other professionally and personally. Of course it’s up to your child to be involved beyond just going to class, and the occasional JUG!
