Safety of train from Midway to Hyatt Regency Mccormick Place late at night

We are arriving late on a weekend night (12 or so). How safe is public transport from airport to hotel at night?

Thanks!

Thanks Avengerfire. I appreciate it. It will be me, wife and 8 year old son. I am worried that taking the train that late at night may mean trouble.

Would you take a cab or train that late at night?

Hi brianjb. I've taken the train from the airport many times late at night and never felt threatened at all. I make a point to sit in the most forward car a few feet behind the person driving the train. Since Midway Airport is the "end of the line" most of the people getting on the train with you will have come off arriving flights or be airport employees getting off work.

You could get off the orange line train at the Roosevelt stop and then flag down a cab on the street to take you to your hotel.

If it were me, I'd just take a cab all the way from the airport to the hotel since you will have an 8 year old who might be awfully tired at that late hour. There won't be any traffic and you will be at your hotel within 20 minutes. p.s. it is a pretty long walk to the orange line departure point at Midway Airport and then you might have to wait for the train, etc.

Taxi would be somewhere around 26 to 30 bucks including the extra person charges, etc. Plus your tip.

Have fun and enjoy Chicago..

So I take it you decided against bringing a car? Or had you planned on renting one?

I am still driving up. I plan on parking there to save on parking costs. It will save me $100 or so. I know that isn't a ton of money, but it all adds up when on vacation I suppose.

OK, lemme get this straight: You're driving up and staying at McCormick Place? I'd drive to the hotel and get valet parking for one night. The next day I'd look for street parking near the hotel (3 blocks or so) and park free for the rest of the stay. The area around there is not unreasonable.

Not sure how late, but usually when I ride the Orange line from Midway I sometimes see CTA officers on the train.

IF I had CHILD and a WIFE with me I would not ride the rails to an area I know nothing about. Take the cab and enjoy the ride. If the hotel has car service they will take you to your plane.

I, on the other hand, would at least ask about it before overreacting.
