Is it legal to have a washer/drier, water heater, and furnace on an enclosed porch instead of in the actual residence?

On a back wood deck?? That's sounds like a collapse waiting to happen.

If they're on a concrete foundation 3-season room in the back area of a SFH then it probably isn't hazardous, grossly inefficient, but not hazardous.

I don't think a washer and dryer is much threat for collapsing a competently constructed, well-maintained rear porch, enclosed or otherwise. My upstairs neighbor has a fridge on his with no worries.

I don't know about the furnace though, that doesn't sound like such a keen idea. Mine has electric baseboard heating on a separate thermostat.

Hmm... I'm wondering if the city says it's illegal or against code.

I bet the washer and water heater get pretty heavy when they're full of water.

If it's enclosed, how will they know?

I more meant the water heater and furnace as being the big issues. My water heater (gas- my electric one didn't have a drain that I could notice) also drains into the basement so one just running off into a gutter would oversaturate the wood for sure.

I am sure it is not running off into the gutter. The water heater has to be connected to plumbing.

Yeah, that's something I thought about but forgot to inquire about... how you gonna hook all this stuff up out there?
