I'm looking to get more involved in Chicago now that I have finally gotten settled. Does anyone know of good volunteer opportunities or organizations that I could work with? I'm really open to different areas of volunteering but have been looking at teaching homeless or impoverished individuals life/academic skills or mentoring youth that have been through some hard times. I'm probably looking for a 1x a week commitment in either the evenings or weekends. There seem like so many worthwhile groups that some guidance on which ones are well organized and impactful would be helpful. Thanks!

One that I am a very avid supporter of is Kids Off the Block. It is an organization that helps kids in high risk areas. They are a local organization, but do work in and around the City, plus nation wide.

They are located on 116th and Michigan.

Yeah, Chicago food pantry needs people for 2-4 hours the second Saturday of every month. They distribute out of the Ravenswood area, the elementary school lot I think.
