Hey, I'm looking for a hotel. Staying right downtown will run us over $100 a night + parking in most cases. We're not looking to spend that much I guess over the 2 night span. But at the same time, we don't want to stay all the way out by the airport. So, I'm wondering if there's a happy medium out there? A little info, we'll be going to a show at Congress Theater, so being up there in Logan Square or the vicinity would be nice...but of course, not necessary. Can you guys help me out?

I just spent a week at a very nice hotel for well below the posted rate. On Priceline, you can choose a star level (one star, two star, four star, etc) and a specific area. Start with the star level you want and a price you are budgeting and bid on an area. For example, say you want a four star hotel for $80 a night. Bid on the hotel. If you don't get it, you can change the star level and/or the area.

We ended up getting a great deal in the south loop when we broadened our search to areas other than the Magnificent Mile.

As far as parking, our hotel charged $27 a day to self park and $38 a day to valet park.

I ended up parking at Midway for $9 a day. It took me half hour or so to commute each way to airport. So for an hour's worth of train rides, I saved $150 over the course of the week. I you are going to be there for three days, expect to pay somewhere around $90 to park your car downtown; or $27 to park at Midway. I am not local, so this may not be the best suggestion. I was just not comfortable ditching my nice car in a neighborhood street for a week. Go to Midway Park Saver - 4607 W. 59th Street Chicago, IL 60629 and get a coupon for parking.

You can get a 3 day CTA pass really cheap. Right across the street from the MidwayPark savers lot is the orange line. You can buy a pass for CTA there at the ATM type machine.

rsdplaya. Sounds like a good idea. Be aware that many neighborhoods have zoned parking that requires a permit and you will want to watch for those signs.
