Being from Niagara Falls, we get a lot of Canadian traffic...they ALWAYS say washroom. Although I obviously know what they mean, that term combined with their accent just sounds so pretentious. Like someone else said, I tend to use "bathroom" in more casual settings and "restroom" when I'm trying to be a little more classy.

the nuns at my catholic elementary set me straight early on. if it has a bathtub/shower you may call it a bathroom. everything else is just a washroom or restroom. just a few days ago i set a youngster straight and explained the difference.

I'm from California and I've always either said bathroom or restroom, but never washroom. I have heard some weirdos (not around here) say lavatory though! Hahaha... nobody says "powder room" like they do on tv, either? lol...
