Living in Wicker Park since 1976, I never saw a rabbit in this neighborhood until I came back from Houston in Feb 2009. There are rabbits wandering around St Elizabeth Hospital!

I don't think rabbits are natural wandering Chicago "residents" like the common squirrel. I'm thinking these rabbits were once someone's pet... But do you have rabbits in your Chicago neighborhood too?

There are rabbits all over Chicago. I've seen them in many neighborhoods, and they are wild--not escaped pets.

The rabbits that live in and around cemeteries and many parks are direct descendants of native rabbits.

I am sure escaped or released pets have mixed in the gene pool slightly, but for the most part the rabbits are native.

I think Jesse just wanted to remind us that he lives in Wicker Park.

I'm freaking out because I never saw wild rabbits in Chicago until this year! Maybe I can go rabbit hunting with a BB gun from here!

The St Elizabeth rabbits aren't into "petting!"

I'm pretty sure the rabbits will be able to easily out smart you if you were obtuse enough to try to pet one.

anybody remember a few years ago when the rabbits ate a bunch of new landscaping in Grant or Millenium Park ?? Cost the Park District a lot, and they instituted a 'trap and relocate' program ..

Well, when I lived in Wicker Park there were quite a few ferile cats living in our alley. That could have kept the rabbits away. I think rabbits are easier prey for them than rats.
