Yes, there's a fairly strict residency requirement that all city employees must live within the city limits of Chicago.

Not to mention the CPS is or has laid off thousands of teachers.

In theory, but.... for high school teachers, often if you have a math or science credential they overlook that since they don't have enough highly qualified teachers in those areas.

Just sayin......

I do know about some of the exceptions. But I think one still has to move into the city within a year or two.

I worked in an inner city HS as a math teacher for 8 years and lived in Evanston. Never lied about it either. Of course that was in the late 80s and early 90s. I moved away due to wanting to be near my grandchildren. (I miss Chicago).

The rules were different then. They removed the residency requirement for a period of time.

You were "grandfathered" in...the residency req didn't hit until later in the 90's. That being said, it is at the discretion of the principal to pursue; conventional city teacher wisdom is that this issue is rarely pursued. In terms of jobs, it is a BAD year for education jobs...many, many teachers have been laid off, many are looking. As for location, you cannot really mean it is unimportant if you are traveling from Oak Park area...have you ever heard of the EISENHOWER?????

I never said location was not important. Where did you get that?

Yeah, I should have clarified that the "location" comment was meant for the original poster...
