First off, this is NOT a thread meant to bash Chicago, so Dementor (as well as other trolls) leave now.

With that said, I've within two miles within, or in, Chicago almost my entire life, and I truly do think its a great city. It has all the amenities someone could ever need, or want. It has a great urban vibe, a better than most public transportation option, and much much more.

Having said that, I cant help but notice that the city is missing something. It almost feels, for lack of a better word, incomplete. Do you think Chicago is missing something, or am I just crazy? I've thought about maybe leaving for a little and living somewhere else after college (3.5 more years to go...at least), but I don't know what my options would be as a High School teacher.

So now we get back to my original question: What do you think Chicago is missing, if anything at all. What could the city do to make it feel more complete?

What do YOU feel it is missing? I'm happy with Chicago, but I'm a simple person. It's got all the theatre and fine arts I want. And, we've got two baseball teams.

Competent government and accessible quality schools. IMO these are the two major barriers standing in the way of a full-blown renaissance in the city. And that goes for several other major cities too.

Exposed. The only war going on is in your head:

How are the attitudes far as New Yorkers looking down their noses at Philidelphians or Philidelphians feeling infringed upon, so on so forth? The reason I ask is because I live in this muck called Chicago and there seems to be a war going on in people's heads here....against Wisconsin, against New York, against L.A. I am wondering if I'm walking into a similar situation in the Philly area.

Ask Santa Dickey these for Christmas.
IMO Chicago needs to get over some issues... like what you just said...

"And that goes for several other major cities too"

No need for that. You can say that Chicago has a problem without pointing out that other cities have it too.

You gents ever watch the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm? Great show if you can get by your unnecessary inferiority complex about that 'glorified suburb' of L.A. which Larry David roams around all day. Come to think of it, you Chicago gents are quite similar to the everyday people he runs into on that show! Uptight patrician types with your soul on loan to the media and advertising. yes. yes. When did Chicago get this way?
I will crawl back in my cocoon now. BTW, prolly not going to Philly anytime soon. I think I will stay here and try to make Chicago a better place ,where the Drover's and Avengefire's of the world can actually be productive and constructive, rather than tearing down what they don't agree with.
