I was just wondering what lines/neighborhoods are directly affected by the construction on the El. From what I've heard (I'm not in Chicago yet), it's the brown, red, and purple lines that are affected.

Are there some stops that have been completely shut down? I found a great apartment right on the Diversey purple line and it goes directly to my office, which will be on S. Wacker, in 15 minutes. What are the commute times like during the construction period, both inbound and outbound? Would it be a headache getting from the Diversey purple line to the loop every morning and evening?

Thanks.

It shouldn't be that much of a headache, even with the construction. The biggest headache will actually be just the volume of riders. There may be some times that a train rolls into the station that's so crowded that you won't be able to get on.

They have indeed closed down whole stops for up to a year at a time; three of them are closed on the Brown Line right now. I don't know if they will completey close the Diversey stop (which is also a Brown Line stop as well as Purple line, and by the way you could take either to work since they run on the same tracks from Belmont to the Loop and back). But if they do, the Wellington stop is only two blocks away, and I very seriously doubt they'd close down both at the same time.

When I rode the brown line this week, the Addison and Southport stops were closed, and will be until December...in my understanding. I know you are asking about the purple line, but...just in case this helps in the future.
