Well, what sucks with North Park is that if you do poorly on a certain area of the College Base Exam they may require you to take extra classes.

Besides that, I really have no issue with North Park. I think overall they do a good job.

You may want to consider Northeastern Illinois University - extensive history and programs in teacher education/ certification, far cheaper than NPU. I don't know about job market for reading specialists, but if you don't live in the city, it will be a problem at some point working for CPS. Finally, South Loop doesn't equal "better". The school in the south loop is the Chicago Teachers Academy at Roosevelt and Clark. Beautiful building serving mostly the community to the south of Roosevelt - lots of energetic young teachers, lots of "outside commitments", lots of teacher turnover. E.g., some teachers are known to go into the public housing development after school hours to knock on doors to see why kids weren't in school, hours= 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. type of thing, which is great if that is what you want...good luck.

all of the areas you listed arent really bad....i currently work in the worse of them all (englewood) and i manage to get to and from work safely....the kids arent that bad at all, we rarely suspend anyone...it is the academics that really need to improve, so I recommend you go through the program because regardless, you may still end up at a ausl school anyhow....
