We plan to move to Chicago from California. I need some guidance on the apartment to stay. We are from Tamilnadu and have a son of 4 years old. We look for aparments that have Tamil / Indian community. As I understand metra /metro is used to commute to work. My work place is in West Monroe Street and I look for metra /metro nearby the apartment. Also, a pre-school for my kid.

Can you please guide me?

Regards

The Indian community within Chicago proper has been centered around the area of Devon Ave and Western Ave in West Rogers Park. As they've become more affluent, large concentrations have developed in the suburbs of Schaumburg and Naperville. These will be the best bets for public schools for your son, as Chicago Public schools are not considered great. Both suburbs have metra service into the city. While I can't speak specifically to Tamil areas, you can contact the Chicago Tamil Sangam for more information about the community:

The Presidential Towers complex , which would be very close to your workplace, had a very large Indian community ..possibly still does ..was the choice for many onshore IT workers and grad students at nearby universities ..

Most Indians live in the suburbs. NW suburbs and West suburbs like Naperville and Glendale Heights is home to significant amount of Indians. There really isn't a decent amount of Tamil/Sri Lankans in Chicago.

Hoffman Estates is 10% Indian, so that is a good place as well.

Kinda off topic, but probably one of the better threads to ask in: If anyone knows of a good Tabla teacher in Chicago, pm me. I have a friend who is desperately looking.
