Both have incredible culture and attitude. Where would you prefer to reside?

I'm pretty sure this exact thread has happened 6 times. Try searching and then asking any questions that weren't answered already.

Chicago - you wouldn't lose your house and possessions to a Hurricane.

No, you're exactly right. At least six times that I can count.

All I can ask is, why? In all my professional career I've never once been asked to make that relocation decision. Paris or London, Frankfurt or Milan, Tokyo or Hong Kong... maybe, but Chicago or New Orleans?

It makes me believe there's some closet company kidnapping poor kids on the south side and making them sew Cubs paraphernalia in NO on the cheap.

Well, this is a Chicago forum... so you can guess most of us are going to say "Chicago" because, well, we've chosen to live here as opposed to anywhere else, at least for the time being.

Yes,of course Chicago. We were in NOLA in October and it is a sad, sick little city which is twice as sleazy and tawdry as before Katrina and where apparently all the population who understand customer service or evince a friendly attitude have left. The debris has been cleaned up but there are many empty lots (where houses used to be). Brad Pitt's ecohouses are U-G-L-Y but at least he's doing something. Chicago has 1000 times the options for food, housing, jobs, everything.

NOLA is an awesome city. I feel like I meet a lot of Chicagoans that make an annual trip to NOLA. I went last year and hope to return this year. But I rather live in Chicago, but spend a week every year partying in NOLA.

NOLA was kicked in the teeth twice. Once by Katrina and Rita, and then by an unresponsive, unprepared, inexperienced FEMA director. The nicest people in the world live in NOLA. You find them in grocery stores, and pharmacies, and buying newspapers and selling cameras from behind a counter. When I manged to get thoroughly lost in NOLA, a young man with long braids, and a gold tooth, who was walking to work rescued me. He smiled, gave me directions and said in the softest voice, "Welcome Home." You do not find this NOLA in bars, parades, ir busy tourist traps. IMHO, it is a reason to return and rediscover NOLA.

I should add that as a whole Louisiana and its history si quite unique and worth exploring as it very unlike the nothern states. The bottom line though, is NOLA is not Chicago and does not offer the same advantages as the largest city in the midwest.

Never been there. I'd like to visit but never to live. I choose Chicago.

I pick Chicago. What areas in NOLA has to offer beside the French Quarter and downtown? Chicago has almost zero natural disaster and the tornadoes that do come , rarely hit the city.
