Okay, what would you recommend a person do if they decide to stay in Chicago for at least a month?

Besides just buying a $86 month bus pass, what else is it that this person should do? Please list some things, I'm trying to help a friend out.

What MUST they have?

If I'm reading your question correctly, you don't mean what should this person "do" in terms of activities, but what they need to "do" or have to be able to get around and function in the city for a month.

A CTA pass will help a lot. But to answer the question better, it would be useful to have more information. When is this person coming? Obviously, you're going to need different things to deal with the weather in February than you would in July. Where are they going to be staying in the city and what are they going to be doing for a month? Are they going to be working or just hanging out?

She's coming in April. Oh yeah, my friend's name is Janet and I probably should have said that in the beginning, sorry!

Anyway, Janet will be coming in April some time, and she'll only be testing the city out for a month. I'm guessing that she'll be staying at a hotel that whole time since we don't have any friends that live in Chicago. But she won't be alone, she'll be with her boyfriend, so that's good.

We just want to know what she needs to "do" in order to function in the city for 30 days time. We already know about the city's tourist attractions, so that part isn't a problem.

This is hard for me to explain, but this isn't going to be a vacation time for them. It's more like them just testing out the feel of the city in case they MIGHT decide to move there maybe in the future. I'm 100% sure that it's not gonna be a vacation time for them.

If I'm still not being clear, please let me know. thanks!

EDIT: In case you need to know, she's 31 years old.

First off, April is one of the most variable months weather-wise in Chicago. The temperature could easily range from the 20s to the 70s over the course of the month. Lots of rain is a given and snow is possible. So tell your friend to come prepared for all the above.

Hopefully, the hotel that she'll be in has a kitchen or at least a small fridge. Eating every meal out, including breakfast and lunch, could get to be old fast, both because of the food choices and the expense.

Beyond those things, there's nothing special one needs to have or do to get by for a month in Chicago. My main advice, given the reason Janet will be here, is to spend time in as many neigbhorhoods of the city as she can and talk to people about what it's like to live there.

Finally, what a great thing that Janet has the time and interest in giving the city such a full tryout before potentially moving here. Whatever her impressions, it will be time well-spent.

Head to the library and check out the book, "How Individuals Named Janet Can Survive Chicago for 30 Days."

Ideally, this is intended for Janet's in their 20's, but I think she may still find relevant information.

Was that supposed to be a joke? Why don't you actually help the TS and keep the sarcasm to yourself.
