Hi All,

I currently have a Illinois Learners Permit which I acquired after testing in the Loop area. Now I'm planning on going for my road test but the problem is I don't have a car of my own.

I was thinking of renting a car from one of the car rental agencies (Enterprise/Hertz) on my Indian License (Not an International Drivers Permit, just an Indian License) with full insurance. The person I called at the enterprise store told me that he could rent me the car on my license, but he knew of people who had taken rental cars for their road test and were turned away.

Does anyone know of people who have taken Rental cars with full insurance coverage recently and been allowed to give the test. I guess the DMV probably changes rules often so something which they might have allowed a few years back, they might not allow it any longer.

Also if someone has given a test in these cars, which locations allow you to?

Alternatively, would anyone have any recommendations as to good driving schools which would rent out their cars for cheap for the road test.

Finally, as an aside, any particular locations which are more relaxed in terms of passing the test? I'm guessing they ask us to parallel park and go for a basic road test.

Sorry for so many questions lumped into one post, but I'm planning on giving the test this weekend and really need to pass it in my first attempt since I'm in the city for only this week

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Sincerely
--
Shishir

You just need a car with insurance. A rental car will be fine.

Thanks a lot jdiddy. Just wanted to make sure because I'm not in town very often and wanted to hopefully get this done with either without being turned away or more importantly passing

I only have Instruction Permit so no renting company will give me car. If one my friend rents a car and we take full insurance. I can be eligible for Driving Test ?

I used a driving school - their car. i just needed a couple of practice lessons, so i used them.. didn't cost much for those two hours, and then they drove me to the place you take your test. I'd go with them.. and they pick you up.

Can you please give me the name of the driving school you used?
