owning, maintaining, and securing a house in a poor neighborhood ... what a nightmare.

depends. I've seen some very poor neighborhoods that were relatively well maintained. Oh, maybe you don't mean poor, you mean poor and slums. Or poor and something.

There are some very poor neighborhoods in some towns/cities that are also very safe. The people who live there are 3rd and 4th generation and all grew up together. They look out for each other, the kids are well-behaved, they don't have much but they have pride in themselves and what they DO have.

Don't "dis" the poor just because they have lack of money.

Chicago inner city poor means your neighborhood will be taken over by gangs and drug dealers. This observation does not disrespect the majority of the people who are forced to live there.
