My friend is coming to visit me in July and she's looking at staying at either the Wyndham near the Allstate Arena or the Ramada on Cumberland near the Kennedy. Has anyone stayed in either of these hotels or know if one or the other should be avoided? Also, to get downtown we're planning on taking the hotel shuttle to O'Hare and then taking the Blue line. I've never taken the Blue line from O'Hare...where exactly do we get on the train? Is it in the airport or somewhere on the edge of a parking lot like the Metra station is?

Once you're at the airport, just follow the signs to the Blue line--the station is located underneath the parking garage. Easy access, you should have no problems finding it.

I imagine the Wyndham is nice. Not sure about the ramada--I've stayed in great ramadas around the country and lousy ones as well. If cost isn't an issue I'd probably steer towards the wyndham.

The O'Hare Blue Line stop is accessible from inside one of the airport terminals (Terminal Two I think??). Like mdz says, just follow the signs, or ask at an information booth.

There's nothing particularly objectionable about either area, except that they're noisy, boring, and not especially residential or nightlife-oriented -- they are generally populated by hotels and office parks. None of this should be a concern if she (he?) is only planning to be there to sleep, shower and change. If (s)he stays at the Ramada, there is a Blue Line stop at Cumberland/Kennedy, literally just one block away. (S)he wouldn't need to haul a shuttle to the airport; (s)he could just walk right to the station. That way (s)he wouldn't have to worry about catching the last shuttle from the airport back to the hotel in the evening.

Thanks for your replies. She was leaning toward the Wyndham because it has a 24-hour airport shuttle (or so their website says), but now that we know there's a Blue line stop so close to the Ramada, she'll probably end up there. We're going to spend most of our time in Chicago so access to the el is the most important thing. I just want to make sure she's at a decent hotel since she doesn't want to stay at my house...I have too many animals and small children for her tastes, haha.
