Does anyone know how safe the Little Italy neighborhood is in Chicago? More specially, along Lexington street and especially for students walking to Rush University?

Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'd consider if pretty safe by Chicago standards. I live about a half block from Lexington and walk that way to the medical district for class every day and have never felt threatened in any way. Same goes for walking back to the area from the el (Racine blue stop) at all hours of the night, although I suppose there's slightly more (but still relatively low) risk there.

Uh oh... The City-Data Chicago Forum neighborhood naming police are going to have a fit about someone calling that area "Little Italy".

I'd say it's generally pretty safe, though close enough to some serious trouble spots that you really need to be careful.

It's safe. Even most of the 'troubled spots' are becoming less troubled, but there are still rough spots South of Roosevelt and north of 290

Keep your head held high, walk with a mission, and you can get through just about anywhere. Those few people looking for strangers to jump are looking for vulnerabilities. Don't look vulnerable.

Well we all know what I'm gonna say... in Little Italy in that Arrigo Park or whatever in the summer time you can see White women layin out on the grass in bikinis... Any neighborhood you see that is automatically a safe neighborhood.

Long101's comments are correct. It's safe, but there is (or was) a fair amount of high crime public housing south of Roosevelt that you want to be aware of your surroundings, and the area directly west is a nasty piece of work as well.

It's fine during normal hours, staying on the main roads, etc., but I wouldn't reccomend stumbling around like an idiot at night etc. unless you are right on the main strips.
