We are driving from Northern California to Chicago next month with a toddler and teenager, and we need ideas on what to see and where to stay on the way there.
All suggestions are welcome.

Toddler: clean bathrooms. Still amazingly rare along much of the route.

Teenager: hope they have a good smart phone and enough friends to text / music to listen to / games to play.

Where to stay? Drive as much as you can as fast as you can as safely as modern radar detection will allow.

agree on clean bathroom, but still have portable potty for when we were potty training and worked well. used it all the time in san francisco. teenager has plenty of friends and itouch but no car charger or itouch charger and not willing to purchase either becasue when they are dead great time for family time. dont' want to drive fast will take our time to see landmarks and different states. any suggest on landmarks and what to see in different states?
thanks

I don't think you'll pass through anything all that interesting. I've only driven as far as Denver from the Chicago area and it's mainly flat farmland. There could be interesting things west of Denver, but I don't any personal experience of such.

I think the flat farmland is why the Midwest is often considered "flyover land" by people on the coasts. Have a great trip!

Thanks knitgirl. I'm sure it'll be interesting. We can fly but rather drive for the scenery view and to say it was done. I'm sure we'll find some interesting things on the way even if we have to take a detour.
