The most pernicious misunderstood idea especially among ‘Christians’ is this. Followers of whatever spiritual and God conception one have even to martyrdom, is certainly better than general sensual people. Suffering and martyrdom was the lot of Pharisees often far more than other religions and commoners. This is suicidal as it diminishes saving repentance among us.
Christ was a Pharisee too as he taught their principles like eternal life, soul, resurrection (not of end times), angels etc. He rejected Sadducees’ ideas. But his humblest Love-God was beyond them and unlike them he was uncompromising with world and ritualistic Jewish religion.
He corrected them as parents and teachers correct the strong obedient ones, but let alone the frail and totally disobedient ones. So he said that Father cuts off the fruitless branches and prunes the fruit bearing branches. So he let alone frail common people us and disobedient futile Sadducees.
Many Pharisees accepted that correction as Paul did and became most productive. It is better to be cared and admonished than to be left ignored. So Pharisees were fortunate. Even Apostles were not so privileged. They were mildly corrected only, being spiritually weak.
But church hid the root of humanity’s becoming Pride-Devil’s brood. Adam and Eve became Pride-Devil’s brood by eating the forbidden fruit allegorically, i.e. accepting Pride-seed from Pride-Devil. We also committed the same disobedience and fell in their lineage as like flocks to like. Heavenly Father did not unjustly force Adam’s Original Sin’s death-noose on their children of flesh. Sin is spiritual. Material flesh is neutral and unable to inherit sin. It can inherit deformity and disease, which are not sin. But the degree of each one’s pre-birth Original Sin can lead one to more degraded parents, even murder at womb.
From 3rd century Catholic Church submitted to Roman Emperors and became their stooge. Kings forced the church to accept the fallacy that we inherited this Original Sin from Adam, like soulless animals, who inherit parents’ deformities. Otherwise their brutality on their own children and subjects would be indicted. They anathematized Origen and other theologians who propounded our individual responsibility of that sin. This is blasphemy against Just God.
Each one of us rejected humble God to accept Pride-Devil as father like Adam and Eve, which is allegorically represented by forbidden fruit episode. Then, being pride-degenerated, we divided into factions and started infighting. Then the stronger faction drove us away. We fell to this earth as refugees frantic for shelter. Being infatuated in Homo sapiens’ body we entered into it, which evolved to this present form. Adam and Eve first entered and we liked them being like rebel against humble-responsible God, to enter into their line. Like flocks to like.
Now pride-war is accelerating, in that pride-infected paradise bigger than earth as sun is, to eventual destruction (Rev12,7-12). Christian world being more alike to paradise, war-refugee souls choose that first and then the world conquered and affected by them. They brought with them superior heaven-inherited intelligence starting sciences and technology revolution in the Christian world. They have swamped the earth polluting and finishing all resources. But as they are unrepentant for war-burning their paradise, those sciences are going to burn the earth and accelerating their soul disintegration. Might be the world would become uninhabitable after the imminent 3rd world war.
The whole humanity worships not the humble absolute love Father Christ preached. Rather continuing their rejection of Him like Adam and Eve they worship the killer Devil in the torturing king-like Gods (Revelation) in all religions including Christianity. If Christ addressed Pharisees as Devil’s brood, then we must be worse brood than them, not less. If we accordingly repent in love-action as Christ proposed and did, then our souls would not be disintegrated now or in the coming hate-blast of A-bombs. Love-practice strengthened internal love would be able to keep our soul-parts together from anti-love sin now and then. That is salvation.

Do not see in the Bible that Jesus was of the Pharisee sect , as He rebuked them and said that you must be better than the Pharisee to enter into the kingdom of God , as they were proud arrogant and legalism with faithless religion far from the faith which Abraham had with God , who they called their father .... Jesus even said beware of the leaven of the Pharisees , which means a puffed up and proud attitude .... As God is a humble spirit and not the proud spirit , and God will bless people who resist pride and sincerely are humble ... Jesus told the Pharisee that they clean the outside of the cup and leave the inside of their cup unclean , which would be like their heart which was unclean on the inside ..... Jesus called God His father which Pharisees found blaspheme , but King David and other prophets also called God their Father .. Jesus also called them unjust .....
the worst bible character was better than many 2013 earth inhabitants.
they did not value human life like we do, but of course that has a cummulative effect.

If a person holds similar ideas of a prominent sect, he can be certainly called by that. As one holding communist ideas or Maoist ideas can be called those even if he denies affiliation. Since Christ’s ideas were nearest his contemporary Pharisees but very far from other sects, he can be safely called so. As long as the name Christian was not put mockingly on Christ-believers and their audacious acceptance of it, their religion was perceived as Judaism of Pharisee variety, not of Sadducee variety.
