I think we can agree that a statement such as this would be pointless at the near end of the Bible if there were no more prophecies. In fact, why would Jesus ask us to test the prophets if all of them would be false? If all prophets were false then Jesus could simply say “there will be no more true prophets”.

We must test the fruits. Ahhh but to decipher a true prophet from a false prophet that is the million dollar question!

But in every Age when the Messenger came on the scene, there was always something in their teaching which was contrary to the accepted teachings of the church of that Age.
I agree with you SisterKat...especially with the last part.

Prophesy using the little book...?
Revelation 10:1-11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

Blessings...

Why do you think Jesus was so hated in his day, .. answer: there was nothing he said, did or taught that was contrary to the accepted written word. And that was how the religious leaders silenced the false prophets. But they couldn't do that with Jesus. No false prophet ever had devils saying:

Mark 1:24
"What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"

That is why the Bible is hated today. ....The NT is about what Jesus said, did and taught. So it would be only natural to be warned that a "false prophet" by definition be a person who's platform is contrary of the written word ..the OT and what Jesus said, did and taught which is recorded in the NT.

If we were to judge our Lord Jesus according to the traditions of the Jewish church, He would be judged a "false Prophet" - and by the 'religious leaders' of His day He was declared to be 'false', even Beelzebub, the prince of devils.

If HE were to appear among us today, dressed in a two or three piece suit, doing the same things He did back then, perform the same signs and wonders, THE DENOMINATIONAL AND NON-DENOMINATIONAL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE WOULD CRUCIFY HIM AGAIN. why? Because He would scream out against the "traditions, false doctrines, and worldliness" pervading the church World today.

The gift of the Holy Spirit is the Prophets , So if you reject the prophets you reject Holy Spirit which blaspheme Holy Spirit. Jesus said They always rejected Holy Spirit.......... In Matthew 10:40-41......``He that recieveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth the one who sent me....He that receiveth a prophet shall receive a prophet`s reward .``.....So what is a prophets reward? Well it is a new faith that the Lord Jesus is giving to bless his Children, believe the prophet and be blessed , do not believe it and don`t get blessed....... Where false prophet are deceptive spirit and come with religous strife that will conflict with the character and will of God

Besides, the role of prophets extends beyond prophesying. A big part of their purpose is to ensure that scripture is understood as it was meant to be understood. Perhaps, had there still been living prophets in the 4th century, there would have been no need for a pagan emperor with a political agenda to call a council to settle the matter of the nature of God. The controversies over Christian doctrine could have been resolved by an appeal to God by the individual He'd chosen to act as His mouthpiece. If the people could have known that there was a prophet to whom God was speaking, the huge controversies such as Arianism would have never gotten so out of hand.

It just seems so unlike God to just suddenly leave His Church without a Prophet when, for four thousand years His people had prophets to guide them. They didn't just have the written word of a prophet who'd lived a thousand or more years earlier. They had a living prophet. To me, the fact that the scriptures warn us against listening to false prophets as opposed to just prophets in general is clearly indicative that God never intended to stop talking.

I really don't understand this need for a prophet. There is no need for one after Jesus. Jesus is the pinnacle, the alpha and the omega. He is all that is necessary. He is the way, and the truth, and the life. God's intended Word and Church is baked golden brown. Let's eat.

This is not about what people believe. This is about what is true and what is false. If you believe it, is it true? One of the age old questions.

I submit to you that ALL prophets since the resurrection of Jesus have been false.

Does that include Revelations?

There is no more need for anyone to prophesy of a Messiah because He has come. But as I said before, that is not the only role of a prophet. Paul seemed to believe there would be a need for the same structural organization that existed in the Church in his day to continue until were all unified in our faith. How much unity do you see within Chritianity today?
