Yes, why? I had a friend in grad school who was heavily involved. I think it was still Boston COC at the time. I had to back off from our friendship because she wouldn't stop trying to get me there. It was creepy. Are they still around?

Well that's weird. It was very cultish when I was dealing with my friend. I mean REALLY cultish. I liked her, but I was too weirded out by the way they were.

They meet the vast majority of criteria for being a cult - exclusivity, isolation of members from their family, compulsory tithing, and a high degree of control of it's members lives.
It is organized as a pyramid structure of so-called Disciples, who control every aspect of those under themselves lives.
Not surprisingly they have been banned from many University campuses due to their aggressive recruiting techniques, including down here in Australia and NZ.
The internet age has exposed groups like this.

looks like the new ICC is the ICOC reborn under Kip Mckean

International Christian Church - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Members must be "sold-out," completely committed disciples (their word for "Christian")

The One True Church of the Bible is made up of only "sold-out" disciples who hold to the correct beliefs, including water baptism by immersion for the forgiveness of sins.

This is just a variant of the failed "shepherding" movement, as they must "be accountable" to church "leadership" in ways that micromanage their day to day lives. It's a self limiting phenomenon as it is not sustainable. And yes, it is cultish.

It will do a lot of damage to people before it dies a natural death, though.

Back to the Future :Spiritual Pornography

looks like Kip Mckean is a busy man. like the ICOC that got rid of him he is repeating history

with his new International christian church. the chart compares the history of the ICOC and the new ICC which currently growing. a university already banned the ICC.

Quote:
1979 Introduced the “key” or “pillar” church plan for evangelizing the world by “planting” churches in key metropolitan areas around the globe.

Quote:
2008 – The Five Year Plan – To evangelize the world, pillar churches will be planted in the following mega-cities: Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, London, Paris, Moscow, Cairo, Lagos, Johannesburg, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Mexico City, Sydney, Santiago, Sao Paulo, and one city in India – Mumbai, New Delhi, or Chennai. During The Five Year Plan, several more US churches must be established providing international student converts, who will “go home” to plant churches of sold-out disciples. Also, being a first world country, the US will provide mission funding for the third world.

Kip Mckean to resign and step down from the leadership of the international christian church in 2016.

Quote:
According to Kip McKean's "Good News Email," an electronic propaganda tool he uses to promote his cult, Kip will be stepping down as LE (lead evangelist) of the City of Angels International Christian Church cult, effective in about one year from now (summer 2016).

This comes as welcome news to many of us who are hoping for the failure of the cult and for the protection of countless young people who are in danger of becoming involved and having their lives completely taken over by years of forced "volunteer" service, as once happened to me and to hundreds of thousands of others like me.

The leadership of Los Angeles branch of the "Sold-Out Discipling Movement," a non-movement created by McKean in an attempt to consolidate his power and multiply his income, sorry, I mean, created by McKean in a valiant effort to fearlessly take the true, lost gospel of the first century Church to a lost modern world, saving a generation of people who would otherwise be lost in its entirety to the eternal fires of hell, will be taken over by McKean disciple, Tim Kernan. Tim is known for being Canadian and for speaking Canadian French as well as English, and for getting very red in the face when he is serious about whatever he is talking about.

Kip, for his part, will dedicate his time and efforts towards his "Crown of Thorns" project, which is the name that he came up with, sorry, that the Holy Spirit came up with to describe his current plans to create a clone of the International Churches of Christ (ICOC), the network of churches that he created and that in a rare, wise move, subsequently removed him from their leadership in 2001 or so.
City Of Angels International Christian Church (ICC) Blog: Kip McKean to Step Down as Leader of City of Angels Cult

so it looks like he is planning to create another ICOC/ICC Clone. history is repeating it self. like the ICOC before the ICC may join a mainline protestant church like the original churches of christ, some may become independent while getting rid of the discipling abuse, and a few may retain the abuses. based on the comments Kip does not have the sme leadership powers like 10-20 years ago. looks the the Mckean cult is dying a slow death. his children left the previous ICOC cult. so there no nobody left to inherit the Mckean religious empire. and with the internet exposing this cultic empire. this will be all over within 5-10 years.
