You really need to start reading the Bible for truth. The Bible very clearly says why God destroyed it.

Genesis 13:13
Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Genesis 18:20
Then the LORD said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous
that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.”

Nowhere do we read that God approved Lot's suggestion ,which seems to be over looked.

But that is par for course...faulty human solution's to pre-empt God's will against those who are wicked.

It isn't that they broke one rule more badly than another but you know that the violation of one will be harder on the child, hence the stronger admonition regarding one vs. another. I lived in Philadelphia for several years and the testimonies of people being delivered from a homosexual lifestyle are sobering. It latches onto every aspect of your life as opposed to say an addiction to alcohol or cigarettes. You are often talking about a person having to go to war in their physical, emotional, financial, familial, AND spiritual life to come back to Christ. Much different than not smoking ever again.
So when these people are supposedly "delivered" from homosexuality, do their brain structures, which were formed in-uterus, magically change to match those of heterosexuals? Does their physiology change so that they react to pheromones in the same way that heterosexuals do?

Their physiology may not change (though that's not beyond the power of God if He wants to), but as with every other sinner, their hearts will be changed into one wanting to please God, rather than themselves.

It's a matter of the heart far more than it's a matter of behavior.

???

Try reading Judges 19 and the story of the Levite for a similiar story-but in that case the men ended up gang raping the Levite stranger's concubine instead of him.

These men in these stories were not homosexuals. Rape of male strangers was a common practice by heterosexual men. It was used to humilate and dominate strangers or enemies. Think prisons today.
Lookup the Abrahamic Laws of Hospitality- perhaps from a Jewish source as the stories are theirs.

Maybe you should look up the original Greek for "strange" flesh. The word is hetero sarkos. The root word for heterosexual.

yada yada yada

No, Lot offered his daughters to the gang because he was bound by the law of Hospitality when he offered the strangers protection under his roof.

Females were of little value compared to men at that time and it was far more important for Lot to protect the strangers. (angels)

I'm always amazed when people use this story and try to make it about homosexuals.

It just proves thet haven't read the whole Bible, don't know much about the historical context it was written in and have a stong prejudice against gay people.

I know. People seem to skip over that point in their rush to misuse this ancient story against gay people. However females weren't considered of much value back then, so a father offering his virgin daughters to be gang raped would have been seen as preferable to allowing strangers who had his protection, to be assaulted or raped.

The story is not about homosexuality. It's about treatment of strangers.
Raping a male stranger was common practice...by otherwise HETEROSEXUAL men.

The National Center for Victims of Crime - Library/Document Viewer (http://www.ncvc.org/ncvc/main.aspx?dbName=DocumentViewer&DocumentID=32361 - broken link)
Quote:
Historically, the rape of males was more widely recognized in ancient times. Several of the legends in Greek mythology involved abductions and sexual assaults of males by other males or gods. The rape of a defeated male enemy was considered the special right of the victorious soldier in some societies and was a signal of the totality of the defeat. There was a widespread belief that a male who was sexually penetrated, even if it was by forced sexual assault, thus "lost his manhood," and could no longer be a warrior or ruler. Gang rape of a male was considered an ultimate form of punishment and, as such, was known to the Romans as punishment for adultery and the Persians and Iranians as punishment for violation of the sanctity of the harem (Donaldson, 1990).

Those verses don't say why the cities were destroyed, other than they were wicked and sinned.

The sins of Sodom were:

Ezekiel 16:49 "'Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy."

Luke 10:8 “When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is set before you. 9Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God is near you.’ 10 But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say, 11‘Even the dust of your town that sticks to our feet we wipe off against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near.’ 12I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.\

Not surprising that the verses in Luke above are immediately followed by Jesus telling the story of the Good Samaritan. A story about..... the treatment of strangers.

And nowhere do we read that the men of Sodom were homosexuals.

However if you read the Jewish Encycopedia you will see that the original story was a moral about the Law of Hospitality which was incredibly important to desert dwelling tribes of that time.

Some of the things YHWH "commnanded" his people to do in the OT would be considered "wicked" or "evil" by 21st century standards.
