I have tried to abstain from it but it just seems that after a few days the urge to have sex or masterbate is too strong and leads to lustful thoughts. I can only assume men have a far greater difficulty overcoming this and i would like to hear your thoughts on the subject. Please try to include scripture for your reasoning.
See Ephesians 5:3
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
1st Corinthians 6:18-20
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
Part of being a Christian is taking up your cross and following Christ. This involves dying to self. The old nature fights against the new nature. Pray. Ask Jesus to starve the old nature and feed the new nature that He has given you. Read your Bible. Paul tells us to think about what is good and pleasing to God, not what would dishonor Him.
Try this: before you do, think, or say something, ask yourself this... is what I am about to do, think, or say going to glorify God? If not, walk away from those thoughts, deeds, or words. Ask Jesus to take those thoughts, deeds, or words captive to Him and rid you of them.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me.” – Philippians 4:13
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” - Galatians 2:20
“Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” - 1st John 4:4
1st Peter 5:6-11
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

First off welcome to the forum
Second, I would assume you are female by your comment that men have a far greater difficulty overcoming this. Feel free to correct my assumption.
Third, are you married? Lust is fine if it is toward you spouse assuming your husband.
Matthew 5:28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a (man or) woman lustfully has already commited adultry with (him or) her in his( or her) heart. As you can tell I tried to cover both sides of gender.
Now if your lust is not directed at a person but the feel that come with masterbation then I would say you are fine because the lust is harmless but if you are fantasizing about another that is not your spouse then yes it is sin.
I have had to train my thoughts to be only of my wife when the urge strikes me. Remember when you have the urge to sin the Lord will give you a way out of the sin.

Excellent observation; the cross is to be our way of life - and to Life.

On what do you base that comment?

I'm sorry but it appears you've found away to justify your actions rather than "a way out of the sin".
I'm not 100% sure where I stand on the sin issue of masturbation but all of our decisions and counsel should be based on what God's Word says. I'm anxious to see if you've got some scripture to support your advice here.

QUESTION:
Where in anything you posted does it state that masterbation is immoral. Or is that just an assumption you are making?

Fulfilling God-given desires in un-God-given ways is a sin in the Christian's life.
If we're meeting our desires/wants/needs in our own way, we're not letting God meet them in His way.
It's quite easy to see that masturbation could lead to unrealistic expectations from one's spouse. Unrealistic expectations can lead to disappointment, dissatisfaction, and a temptation to look outside the marriage bed for a "higher high" sexually speaking.
I'm sorry but it appears you've found away to justify your actions rather than "a way out of the sin".

Actually I cant because I struggle with the very thing myself. I have trained my mind to only see my wife when the urge strikes even if looking at porn, lord forbid, I see my wife and myself together at various stages of our lives. The only scripture is the one I offered which enabled me to focus on my wife and I am never disappoint in our sex lives because she is my focus sexually. I beleave Paul said that if you cannot contain yourself then marry.
Masturbation is a sin because it involves impure thoughts of people and yourself in situations that, outside of marriage, are contrary to God's will for us to be holy and lead God-pleasing lives.
Lustful thoughts of people are not holy and God-pleasing. Undressing people in your mind and then imagining situations is sinful. Even if you are married, it is wrong unless you are sharing the experience with your spouse. Masturbation alone, if married, robs your spouse of mutual pleasure because God tells us that our spouses bodies belong to us and vice versa.
If you are married, you are not lusting if the object of your desire is your spouse, and sexual gratification is shared together. Lust is sin, desire is not, if in the marital context.
People don't like rules and laws that would govern their behavior, but God gives them to us because He loves us. There is a huge difference between freedom and permissiveness. Freedom is fine, permissiveness is not.
