I was googling does prayer work and came across some interesting stuff.
There was a scientific study done on the effects of prayer on coronary patients that was published the american heart journal. I can't post the link but here's a blurb:

Praying for the health of strangers who have undergone heart surgery has no effect, according to the largest scientific study ever commissioned to calculate the healing power of prayer.
In fact, patients who know they are being prayed for suffer a noticeably higher rate of complications, according to the study, which monitored the recovery of 1,800 patients after heart bypass surgery in the US.

Its seems when prayer does work we give glory to God, but when it doesn't work we still give glory to God and chock it up to it must not be his will to answer. So why pray?

Because Jesus told His disciples to do so. We dont pray to command God, we pray to submit to and be changed by God.

IMHO, it is the same feeling to pray as to wish, for most. Some pray for God to do things or for God to NOT do things. Both have three responses: yes, no, maybe. Unfortunately, it all then depends on the interpretation of a response from God. no matter who you pray to, the same three responses exist. You choose the response you want to see and see that. I believe it is the thought and the feeling behind it that matters. So does prayer work? Depends on the person doing the praying. :-)

Today in Church a friend had a heart attack after recently having one and came out of the hospital. His first time back, when he became ill. Lost all coloring in his face. So I went to him. Took his left hand into my right. And, I told him, I was with him, to have faith. He said he had faith. I told him the Spirit is with him. Went back knelt before God the Father. As tears came forth, I prayed. Then Father Murphy said to him and the congregation that he was already looking better. I turned to see his color returning to him. Now the paramedics came and he got up and laid down on the gurney. And took him to the hospital.
I say this with all humility to the Father and I say this not for my benefit, but yours.
Peace be with those who believe and have faith.

I believe in prayer. One of my prayers was answered just a little bit ago. What I prayed for would seem silly to others, but to God it did matter.

One amazing story of prayer happened when I was in elementary school. I was visiting family in Colorado with my family and we decided to go to an indoor swimming pool. I walked in the wave pool with my glasses on, and sure enough, the lens fell out. I and my family spent a long time looking for it until we decided to pray. Just a bit afterwards, the lens was found. It would be impossible to find it without prayer. That is just one example of answered prayer.

I like that. I was taught, back when I was a teenager, that if something is important to me, it's important to God.
