Are there any reputable charities set up to take money specifically for the tornado disaster in the southeast U.S. Japan and Haiti get direct websites immediately, but that seems harder to come by here in the states.

American Red Cross, you can identify which disaster you wish to donate toward, including Japan.

Southern Baptist Disaster Relief crews are already all over the place, feeding people, doing chainsaw and damage assessment, and helping in rescue and recovery efforts. All their volunteers are trained in their specific missions and many of them are from the damaged areas as well.

Donations made to the SBC-DR go to disaster relief and that only. Nothing is diverted for salaries, expenses, fund raising or anything else. 100% of your donation will be spent on disaster relief.

You can donate via this website, either to the national office (North American Mission Board) or to a specific state convention in the areas affected.

Disaster Relief Donations

ps: Don't worry about funding aggressive evangelism efforts. That IS our primary mission (yes, I'm a DR volunteer), but we never force the Gospel on anyone not wanting to hear it. There's no requirement for a victim to listen to a sermon, accept a tract, pray with us or anything else. If they're interested? You bet, we'll share the Gospel in a heartbeat. But, if they're not, we just go to work and meet their needs in the name of Jesus. We serve everyone, of any faith or no faith at all. All races, creeds, national origins, languages. We don't care. If you need us, we're there. If he needed us, we'd even cut the trees off the devil's house!

I would expect that your church would have such a charity. I know that mine does.
