Now, I'm not telling other people to do away with their religion or 'throw in the towel,' that's their choice.... But personally for me, I feel it is just not panning out, this trying to be a Christian and all. Nowadays I actually get extremely frustrated and annoyed when people continues to tell me "Remember God loves you" or "Just have faith in God and things will etc. etc." I wonder what planet they are living on b/c it certainly doesn't seem like the same one I'm on. I am just wondering at what point does a person say, "OK apparently I'm not going to be 'saved' or w/e when the time comes, so may as well quit while I'm ahead.' Because they say you're supposed to beleive in everything that's in the Bible -- but what if you don't though, then what? Sometimes I wonder if Atheists are just Christians who came to the conclusion nothing is changing by beleiving in God, their life still sucks.... What are your thoughts on this? I hope this all made sense, LOL. Ty.
If you think that the message of Christ is that you get saved and life is a bed of roses you simply have not read the New Testament. The Bible does not promise you an easy life.

Jesus Christ the living God of Christians and the God that Christians know personally said in Proverbs 29: 19..``Where there is no vision , the people perish``.....In the book of Hosea 4:6 The Lord said ``My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge , because they have rejected knowledge``.......See Jesus know that many people have poor ideas that lead to no where ..... Belief if the living God is hard , but the way to get started is to find a church were the gospel is preached and there is evidence in the Holy Spirit in the Church , were the Lord is helping the people who go there and healing their bodies and lives then you will have a witness of Jesus Christ which is a key to belief ..... See there are many dry church were there is legalism which will lack Holy Spirit moving in their lives and people will have no vision into the witness of Jesus and His Spirit of truth to give to people to help them believe ...... See there is a false prophet that come against Jesus and His spirit which is the critic against Jesus and lead people away from the truth ..... The truth is there so Don`t quit looking .....

If we are supposed to believe every word, then I guess I'm out of luck too! In a way, anyways. I can't say that I actually don't believe every word, but I sure don't get some of it.
How does someone decide when or if they should throw in the towel? I guess, like everything else, it's a personal choice.
For me, I definitely have lots of questions. Some of which, I will surely not get the answers to. But I'm not planning on throwing in the towel.
I can empathize with your frustration and even some possible annoyance, when people say the things which you mentioned. Although I'm sure many of them are genuinely sincere in their beliefs and their sentiments, it does sometimes seem a bit shallow.
I won't try to reel you back in. I'll just tell you that whatever your troubles are, I hope you find a way to get through them and feel okay with yourself when all is said and done.
Regardless of whether we are religuous or not, I think it's important to know and accept that we can't control everything in our lives, and sometimes we just have to accept whatever is going on and deal with it the best way we know how.
OP, You post an interesting question, but I would have a hard time helping you with posting over the internet. You would have to go on to explain, what you believe the Christian religion is, and what about your life you expected to change? I would also have to ask, what kind of instruction you received, and how much studying you have done since. Christian faith is like a plant. Once it begins it either continues to grow and bear fruit, or it goes the other way and dies.

Salvation is a gift from God through Christ.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; not by works, so that no one can boast.
And IMO you aren't saved by toeing the doctrinal line and not questioning what the Bible says. You are saved by your relationship with God thru Christ. Note: I believe the Bible to be true and written by men who were led by the Holy Spirit.
Some who are saved see the Creation story as literal. Other saved folk see it as saying God created all but not as a literal story.
Doll Eyes, have you given it all up to God and told Him everything that you are feeling right now? I will you in my prayers and remember that God is always right there, even when we are struggling and have no faith. He is love, even when we don't feel it or can't see it. It's about faith and trusting in Him anyway, even when things seem crazy. God bless.
Interesting and honest post. -- I believe you reflect the thinking of many who are expecting 'religion' to change their lives and make everything like they want it to be. (In a manner of speaking, it's like putting-on a parachute because someone has told us it will make us feel better. Yet, all it does is make us look foolish and feel uncomfortable. If we first know that the 'plane' is going down and that all on board without a parachute ('Jesus Christ') will perish, --- we're going to worry a whole lot less about how we feel or look in our parachute).
'Religion', much like "trying to be a Christian" or "believing every word of the Bible" ...depends largely on our effort and works. The 'life' and 'more abundant life' Jesus spoke of, is entirely a work of God's grace! --- When we truly start depending on Him, not on our own efforts to 'be good' or 'understand God' or 'behave in a religious manner' ... then God is able to give us a NEW LIFE that we can truly live! When that happens, we, like Paul, "learn the secret of being content in all situations."
