President Barack Obama delivered an unusually stark Christian message at the White House Christmas tree lighting Thursday night, saying Christ's message "lies at the heart of my Christian faith and that of millions of Americans."
"More than 2,000 years ago, a child was born to two faithful travelers who could find rest only in a stable, among the cattle and the sheep," Obama said at the tree lighting ceremony, a longstanding White House tradition.

"But this was not just any child," Obama continued. "Christ’s birth made the angels rejoice and attracted shepherds and kings from afar. He was a manifestation of God’s love for us."

Best Obama speech of the year.

Yeah I'm really surprised he did this, especially since he hasn't celebrated his Christianity much over the past several years (he seems to distance himself from Christianity).
Maybe it's a miracle, or maybe it's because he's desperate due to low approval. Either way, a reminder about Christ at Christmas is important.

Why turn it into something political? And how do you know how much he has or hasn't "celebrated" his christianity? Does someone have to attend a church once or twice a week to "celebrate" their beliefs? If I remember correctly, George W. Bush claimed to be "born again," but I don't remember very many reported instances of him attending church.

I'd prefer that the president not be religious, but it is his right and thankfully he does not believe that god told him to kill hundreds of thousands of muslims with his B52 and B2 bombers, nor would I expect such levels of ignorance from an obviously intelligent man.

It is after all a holiday based on the fables of christianity, and a big deal at least for the retailers and the economy.

Of course the intolerance of religious people tried to crucify him for not mentioning god during his Thanksgiving address (which by the way is NOT a religious holiday). It seems that the religious are so shallow they can't separate their belief in a fable from politics and their personal bias.

You don't want to know, the realization of how many people in this country wear their willful ignorance with pride will cause you some restless nights.

This is a case where conservatives should give credit where credit is due. I know he is a politician and there might be a political motive but unless you are God or Obama himself you don't know how genuine his statement truly is. Also it is not mutually exclusive one could be genuine and be using it as a tool for political gain, one would have to be pretty naive to think some conservative politicians are exactly that way.

Honestly believing beyond any doubt that Obama is not a Christian is nothing but "confirmation bias", paying attention to only perceived slights Obama does to Christianity and glossing over things like this as fake. Do I think it is possible Obama is not a Christian? Of course and that is true of just about anyone claiming to be anything under the sun but I won't latch on to some believe without extra-ordinary evidence. I am not God himself therefore I am not in a position to know such things for sure. From an intellectually honest standpoint anyone claiming to know with absolute certainty that anyone is a true believer or not is committing a form of blasphemy in my view.
