You're talking about "total faith" in your wrapup but what does that have to do with repentance? You keep saying "this ISN'T repentance, that ISN'T repentance"...then what is? Just not sure what you were getting at here. Any bumbling fool who never had a negative thought toward another creature nor himself in his entire life could "have faith" without having anything at all to repent. So what is the tie-in?
Now, on the subject of repentance itself: It has personally always turned my stomach that humans would be required to repent being human. I can see repenting for having hit someone in anger. I can see repenting for stealing something. But repenting for not honoring your father and mother because your father raped you and your mother stood back and did nothing? Repenting for wanting to sleep with someone you love? Repenting for eating a pork chop?
Look, if you list everything human as a sin then yes, by your definition, everyone sins. That makes this all a sort of a trap, dunnit? (:thinking) It's like saying, "If you are carbon-based, mammalian and your cells contain DNA, THAT IS PROOF THAT YOU HAVE SINNED! Because before Adam and Eve "fell" they weren't mammals, weren't carbon-based and their cells didn't contain DNA. No, seriously...it's true! You having DNA proves that you're a sinner!"
That's no sillier than saying, or implying, that being horny means you're a sinner, being jealous of someone at some time means you're a sinner, lying and telling your mother-in-law she looks great in those velvet hot pants means you're a sinner...etc.
So. Your original question was: according to the Bible, what is repentance? You don't seem to have attempted to answer that actual question, do you yourself have a theory or do you really not know? If you have a theory, would you like to tell us?
