I chose that they cannot accept certain teachings because I think that is what keeps many people from knowing God - that his nature is misrepresented and a false image of him is presented to the world. Sad, but I think that is the main reason.

Christ is the perfect image of who God truly is. The world has both images. The question is which one will be followed? The false image of Christ or the real one. The pharisees are a prime example that a person can see God's true character and still reject Him, and the reason for that is clearly stated in John 3:19-20.
