Bible readings today:

What did your priest said about them in the homily?
Quote:
Genesis 22

The Sacrifice of Isaac

17 I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies,

Romans 8:31-34

God's Everlasting Love

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

The Gospel Reading: Mark

The Transfiguration

2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.

9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.
I am always fascinated about what the priest will say about God telling Abraham to kill his son. But the priest simply stated God told Abraham not to kill Isaac and then the following generations were blessed.

As for Romans and the Gospel the priest mentioned that sometimes Protestants want him to be saved and that Jesus died for our salvation. However, he was joking about these sort of statement regarding salvation.

The priest affirmed that God sent his son to Earth so we could know God and hence become better people. That in itself promotes salvation, but he gave the impression that the main purpose of Jesus was to introduced God to us rather than to try to save us. The concept here is that salvation is a given and Jesus came to us so we could know God and establish a relationship with Jesus. He further stated that God spared Isaac, but had Jesus killed.

I am curious as to what did your priest said (Assuming you went to mass today).

I sort of agree with the priest. I have never been to high in the obsession to seek salvation, for me that is a moot point.

I do not what the priest in your area says about salvation but the priest in our area take confirmation of Baptism to heart and people are called to receive Jesus Holy Spirit at their confirmation and be married to the Lord Jesus , ...Others who need help in their salvation can go through spiritual renewal for their conversion , which is the same a being Born again from the scriptures ....... The sacrifice of Isaac was a point of contact for the Lord which proved to the Lord of Abraham faith and God spared Isaac life as it would have being a waste of life and Isaac was a descendant of Adam and would have being unworthy to be a complete Saviour Like Jesus, so became a shadow for Lord Jesus to come for blessing of Israel ...... God can be for , who can be against us ? taken legally can prove error , but if believers use it they must be cleansed and take authority over the dark spirit that will be against them as God requires participation of prayer and faith ..... Jesus risen from the dead mean Just that Jesus had grey skin under His collar, and most of the blood that keep Jesus alive drained out of the holes on His feet and he was gone for three days , and the Lord promised to raise Jesus up from the dead and that is Just what He did , and Jesus ascended into Heaven after that were He reigns over the Heaven and the earth , were His death is made a judgment to all who turn from sin and the devil who manipulate him to sin will be judged by the cross were Jesus died and was risen, and the judgment will be life for believers .... Glory to God

Our priest joked a bit about the obsession of some Protestants with salvation. The priest feels God sent Jesus to us so we could establish a relationship with Jesus. This seems more important than anything. the inference is that we are saved by knowing Jesus and not necessarily because Jesus died.

My priest stated the obvious.

My own thoughts about it: God doesn't ask any human what He is not willing to do Himself. And notice how man never actually had to sacrifice his son, but God did. Does He love us or what?
