Sometimes we like to think that we control our own destiny. But do we?
Does God have a will? Most Christians would say yes.
Does God get what He wills? Most Christians have to conclude, no.
I believe that God's Sovereign Will always overrides man's "free" will. Especially in matters concerning our eternal destiny.
An interesting perspective on the Sovereignty of God:
The Sovereignty of God or Man?
May we all grow in Him,

I do not believe in free will. There is only deterministic processes and chaos, which allows for no such thing as free will according to any working definition.

No way am I my own savior! Of myself I cannot save me or do anything that is good, right and correct. It truly is Him in me that does any work that gets done, and glorifies Him and His will.
Our bible didn't use that term "predestination" for play. Such a thing exists. If I am saved it is because my name was in the book of life before He founded this world. This subject has caused word wars 'tween many believers and I won't play in one, but I also won't ignore the truth of the concept and it being reality.
Perhaps we are allowed a certain amount of "freedom" and yet we're all pieces on a huge chessboard of God's. I dare to think this way because He predestined us. because in Ezekiel He says that He will "put a hook in the jaw" of a huge army and bring them, obviously by force upon Israel so that He can then destroy them in the land of Israel....that is predestination, clearly.

You're welcome!
I have been dwelling on some of the basics lately: God made everything. He made you and me. He made all peoples, all nationalities, all cultures. He made heaven and He made hell. He made good and He made evil. He is working on each of us!
-How wonderful it is, when we're with other people, especially those we don't agree with or like too much, to remember that they are being formed by our Creator, just as He wants them to be!
Blessings!

Thanks for sharing, Brian. I believe that He has a purpose for everything and everyone. We may not see or understand all of His ways but we should trust that Him in everything. I want to learn to hold onto Him even when the storms of life come and trust in Him anyway. It is an glorious journey God bless and serve.

Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul
Ernest Henley
vs
My Captain
Out of the night that dazzles me,
Bright as the sun from pole to pole,
I thank the God I know to be
For Christ the conqueror of my soul.
Since His the sway of circumstance,
I would not wince nor cry aloud.
Under that rule which men call chance
My head with joy is humbly bowed.
Beyond this place of sin and tears
That life with Him! And His the aid,
Despite the menace of the years,
Keeps, and shall keep me, unafraid.
I have no fear, though strait the gate,
He cleared from punishment the scroll.
Christ is the Master of my fate,
Christ is the Captain of my soul.
Dorothea Day
God bless and peace.
