Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Taking the name of God in vain means reducing the value of God name and identity, where even the honor of Word that God said is His identity where the power of using God`s power through His name can be rejected which will take its name in vain ....... Religious cults which are a form of godliness but deny the power take the name of God in vain , where they add man made ideas frills to their belief which deny the Words that God said and their honor in believing them ...See religious cults are all ideas which came from man which are man made and are not anointed from Heaven and its ideas for belief , so when people pray to God with alien ways to God, then God does not hear the prayer..... Where God waits and answers only Gods Words and ideas ...

I see alot of people, especially in the Hebrew Isrealite community abuse this verse by saying if you say LORD or God, you are taking the name in vain because God is just a title and YAH is the name and they normally quote Psalm 68:4 from a KJV bible. Since YHWH was substituted with the word LORD almost 7000 times in our bibles, it is said we are taking the name in vain by making it mean nothing since we are substituting it. But saying "God dxxn it" is not taking the name in vain because God is not his name. Then afterwards is the usual Jesus vs Yahoshua and the letter J argument.

'in vain' is with vanity, without purpose, without power.

Preaching that the 'Lord' says you need to believe X, or to do Y, if it is in vain or without God's Authority it brings dishonor and division.

The teaching of false prophets and teachers, who say they are teaching God's Word is corruption.

Hi everyone Taking the Lord's name in vain is simply swearing something is true by invoking God's name knowing that it was false, or it was false. \This was a sin and we were advise never to swear by God's name in case the statement or oath we gave was some how wrong.

I guess the key to the entire commandment is the word "vain"

"Vain" means to do not use his name to curse, swear, lie or deceive, or use it superstitiously.

False religions \ cults that claim to be christian but are not is are a form of superstition.
