We have taken off aboard the Worship Airways and we start to glide through the air in worship and also to live for worship, our first stop is going to be, what is Worship? Worship is an individual adoration of God; it is a one man’s band. As we yearn to learn what worship is all about we will start with defining what the term worship mean. The Word “Worship” defies definition as it is too big a word to define or breakdown fully, for today we will start to break it down.

We will look at how the English Language came up or structured and formed the word worship. The term worship carries several meanings attached to it but when we break its structure we will also understand more and more about worship.

a. Worship comes from two Old English Words combined together which are “Worth” and “ship” or “scip” which then make up “Woerthscipe” altogether which means to ascribe quality of having worth or to ascribe the quality of being worthy

b. Worship also comes from another set of words “Woerdhscipe” which means to give recognition to God which He deserves or which is due to His Name. “Meritoriousness” which basically means “worthiness”

Our ordinary Dictionary explains worship as showing great honour and respect to, praise and pray to God mind you this is what the dictionary states about worship. The Thesaurus explains Worship as respect, adore, cherishing, to respect.

Altogether these are the definitions of Worship according to the English Language and the dictionary, they showed us that worship is about ascribing, giving worth to Him who is Worthy. The meaning of the word worship to the church is different from the meaning of worship to the church so think about it.

What does worship mean to you.

John 4:24
God is Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

One must first be born again into the Spirit of God (John 3:3; Romans 6; Ephesians 4;5) receiving the free gift by faith in God in Messiah saved by grace to have fellowship.

Flesh is the opposite of Spirit and hypocrisy is the opposite of truth.

1 John 1:6-7

6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

John 8:12

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

I've heard that Worship is adoring and honoring who he is, and Praise is adoring and honoring his works.

Hence when one is referred to as the worshipful master at a lodge means that he is worthy of respect...If memory serves, long ago, I was reading as a child my grandmother's old family bible, it was a very old bible and huge with copious wood-cut prints, over a hundred years old at least at the time and I remember reading in it that we are to worship our parents, and I remember thinking 'We are to pray to them?'...More modern translations use the word honour...So, people today see the word worship as something religious, but back then it had a different meaning, more secular...It simply meant, and regardless of how our society has changed it's usage, still means to highly respect, honour....

Our lives need to come to the place where w stop believing that without music w cant worship. To undastand that before all these things which w call music, worship to God meant a lot different.

with time people stopped searching for truth and kind of went with the flow of passing worship as folkore stories...

i'm nt sure about the interchange of the words worship and honour... Thank you.
