I think it's very important to read and study great commentaries on the word for many reasons. I would say that in my long life as a Christian the majority of fellow believers that I have known have a very slim understanding of what not only this portion of the sermon actually means and how to apply it to themselves but the entire sermon is commonly misunderstood.
