According to Christianity, Jesus supposedly died for your sins in order to grant you access to heaven. So did everybody that died before that go to hell?

Just curious.

I think I heard from somewhere that Jesus, after being crucified, went down to hades and preached to them down there; and those that had lived a good life and accepted Jesus as savior were escorted into the heavenly realms. So, for all those folks who are practicing different religions other than Christianity today it would have been more profitable for them to have been born during those days, then these days.

Since hell is the grave, yes then everyone who died before Christ's death, burial, and resurrection went to their graves or to hell if you wish. Had Christ never died on the cross for our sins, we would have remained in our graves forever, totally oblivious to anything and everything. We would have been dead in our sins.

That idea of hell is far worse than the old pitchforks and burning viewpoint. To be alone in the darkness bereft of love or grace for all eternity.

Prior to Jesus, salvation was based on faith in God and trust in His plan. Ultimately, it was still based on the death and resurrection of Christ, though God’s followers did not know exactly how that would look. Today, knowing that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3-4), the content of our faith is a bit more specific. However, faith is still the requirement for salvation, the object of our faith is still God, and the completer of our salvation is still Jesus.

How were people saved before Jesus died for our sins?

Most everyone went to Sheol/Hades which is what modern Christians call Hell. Hades was not a place of punishment per say, but simply a waiting place to hold the souls of the departed. The New Testament even mentions some angels being held there. Jesus overcame Hades and it was destroyed when God brought judgement against the Jews in 70AD.

I agree with you on this too.

Most of the spiritual great grand Fathers of Jesus , but not all of them are with the Lord Jesus in Heaven , then there are many people who were saved through the house of Abraham in the blessing of Isaac who the Lord keep were the people had faith and compassion for the purpose of the Lord , who He collected and brought into Heaven after the cross of Christ...... Other than that there may be others that the Lord collected for Heaven before Jesus but there is not record in the Word of God , as there where people who knew the Lord apart from Children of Israel , Like the wise men from Jesus birth and then there was Melchisedec who was the priest to Abraham before the blessing of Isaac , where these people where not from Israel

Where are you coming up with this stuff just out of curiosity? Can I assume these are your own opinions?

I don't quite understand your viewpoint. You believe torment and agony every second of infinity would be preferable to being left alone? Feeling the supposed wrath of your creator constantly bombarding you with tortures that even Hitler's regime, or Pol Pot's, etc. could think of would be easier than being alone? Hell is said to be dark despite the supposed flames, and they say you are separated from God for all eternity, so that removes love and grace anyway. How could the addition of unutterable, unimaginable torture make it better? I suppose you assume one gets a break now and then and can talk with others or some such thing?

What was meant by the grave in the post you are responding to is opposed to the idea of an 'eternal soul' where one has consciousness. Many believe, including me, that the death that God said was the consequence of sin is 'not being', no conscious awareness of anything. You would not feel pain, loneliness, etc. You just no longer exist.

Because of what the Son of God did, upon death, you close your eyes and your next conscious moment, you open your eyes and have no awareness whether one second or 5 billion years have occurred. But we will live again because of Christ. There are many who believe that one never 'sleeps'. I feel there is more evidence to support the 'soul sleep' view. I am not inviting arguments one way or the other, merely offering the poster clarification so she might understand that this view can't be 'worse' than the hell that is commonly painted.
