I was reading about a new Catholic church that started up recently to specifically only have Latin Mass. I used to be Catholic, but know very little about Latin Mass. But my question is, what would people get out of it when they don't understand Latin? I attended a Greek Orthodox church once and much of it was in Greek. All I could do was sit/stand/kneel and look around.

To many Catholics, it isn't about the "user-friendliness" of the mass....they are there out of obligation and duty to God. They view the eucharist as the high point of the Mass.....not the sermon. They know what the priest is doing regardless of what language he is speaking.

Thanks! Personally, I wouldn't get much out of it if I couldn't understand the language. I'm Presbyterian now and the liturgy is similar to Catholic Mass, but I never know which prayer will speak to me or when a Homily will really inspire me. I need to understand for that to happen.

The 1962 Missal has the entire mass (aside from the readings/gospel) in English on one side, and Latin on the other. A lot of the prayers the priest says are silent so you read along as he is saying them to himself.

The readings and gospel are read in English before the homily.

So if you know how to read, you will know what is going on.

OK, then that makes more sense to me. I think people who aren't or were never Catholic don't really understand the beauty and reverence of the Mass.

I attended the latin mass several times many years ago. I was not catholic, I am not Christian now, but the Latin Mass remains one of the most beautiful performances I have ever seen. I can see where it is aesthetically inspiring just in it's pure esoteric beauty alone. It was not about the Eucharist for me, it was about the overall experience.
DON'T WASTE TIME TELLING ME I WAS GOING FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS. I HAVE HEARD THAT BEFORE AND DO NOT CARE.

When you go to McDonalds in Europe, don't you still want the fries like you them? Don't you want you Big Mac to taste the same? The Catholic Church is also the catholic (universal) church, the one true church established by Jesus Christ. Currently, the entire Catholic world does the same readings and same gospel, no matter where you are in the world. Now if all masses were in latin again, then you have the same mass wherever you went. Look, I am not sure about the latin mass either, but I understand the purpose.

The faith that I understand is that if there is No Word of God , then there is no faith for expectation ....So if I don`t understand the language than I will not have any new faith coming from the meeting to present to Lord Jesus ..... So it is best for me not to go , and leave these to people who understand the languages..
