I'm just curious why no one ever starts a church or "Movement" geared toward middle-aged factory workers. This one appears to be for young, trendy people only.
How about biker ex-cons? I talked with a group of guys just yesterday who were on a ride representing their church.
Ya gotta get out more. There are all kinds of churches meeting the needs of all kinds of people. And, yes, these are Christian churches.
One of my favorite Biker groups is called "The Sons of Thunder," Recognize the reference? Kewl, huh?
Very!
I'm a big fan of so-called unorthodox churches. I've seen them do tremendous good in both spreading the gospel and meeting the needs of both members and the community. (Food banks. Paint out graffiti programs. After school programs. Youth at risk programs.) I've witnessed lives changed for the better because of them.
Quote from the Senior....err, "Lead" pastor: "God told us to come to San Marcos and start a church for people that wanted to experience God in a relevant way."
How can we argue with that? How do we REALLY know if God "told" them to start a church in San Marcos? If that church doesn't grow, is it God's fault?
It's a seeker-sensitive, Purpose-Driven church, in the Rick Warren, Saddleback mold. Honestly....I don't care if my "Lead" pastor's favorite Star Wars character is Chewbacca, or if he's into Felix the Cat. But his Bio page tells us that. I want to know if he can correctly Exegete scripture. I see nothing on that page to tell me that. I see nothing about his educational background. Nothing about what seminary he's been to, if he has been to seminary at all. It instead seems to be more concerned with making him look cool.
I've never seen a church planted that plays the old hymns. It's always a cool, rocking, experience. This one, in particular, seems high on the experience, and low on correct teaching.
that is true. I guess its like you never hear a mega church pastor say " God has called me to the mission fields, sell all my possesions and live with the tribes". For some reason God never called those folks to the mission field. the leaders at this church want to attract the young. it is the young that most people are concerned about. you hear us all the time, "what is happening with out youth,, why are they all leaving church?. etc..."
i know i will never go to this church, but it is attracting people to it.
One thing for sure, whatever you with them with, is what you win them to. So if a person comes to church for the cool/emotional experience, then they will be won over to that and not to God.

i rather fellowship with excon christians than with christians who been christians all their lives. there is a big difference. Kinda like, "he who is forgiven little loves little..."
what if the pastor went to the same school you went to? will the pastor then get your blessing. or is doctrine more important? if doctrine is more important, it matters not which school the pastor went through. I am sure you have seen the theologian with a PHD speak some nonsense from the pulpit. when i say nonsense, i actually mean heresy.
