If Paul were alive today, he'd get shouted down by many in society.
"For the overseer must be above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain, 8 but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, 9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. "
Are you willing to submit your beliefs to sound doctrine and teaching?
The problem is, there is no agreement among different branches of Christianity what sound doctrine and teaching is.

There is more anecdotal ... than real truth to that perception. Sound doctrine is repeated over and over in God's Word, in a variety of circumstances, so that we can "build precept upon precept" and "know the truth." The notion that we are 'on our own and must decide for ourselves what is true by what we think and feel' ... is an old Gnostic doctrine that has always been spouted by those who resist God and WILL NOT endure sound doctrine.

Building precept upon precept was exactly what the religious authorities had done to the Mosaic Law to the point where just exactly how far a person could walk on the Sabbath was prescribed and so forth. Just exactly what do you think that "the freedom that we have in Christ" as opposed to returning to the strictures of the Law meant?
This is why clergy should be kept on a tight rein if allowed at all.

...because he was an overzealous, misogynistic freak who railed on and on about the length of men's hair and women wearing hats and lots of other drivel and nonsense that had eff-all to do with anything Jesus ever allegedly taught or said.
In truth, most Christians today should call themselves "Paulists."
Today he would be treated very harshly Vizio, if not dismissed out-of-hand as a lunatic especially by many in this forum. People would call him out-of-date, stupid, hateful and a hypocrite. He would be forced to accept society's norms or receive utter contempt. I personally don't feel that way but judging by the opinions I have seen here, and if this is any reflection of society, well................

The reality is we are not on our own(Christ is in us),and he(Christ in us) is our director .
nor may ye be called directors, for one is your director -- the Christ. Matt 23:10
This is the teaching of Christ, not and old gnostic.
everytime Jesus was persecuted He was either: in the synogogue, going to the synogogue, or leaving the synogogue, or around those from the synogogue. Things would not change today. He would be ran out of churches, His message would be well received among the regular folks.

Peter, who walked with Jesus, said this about Paul:
2 Peter 3
14 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
