Can you provide a list of these "several hundred thousands" in the past year? Of the ones I've referenced, none have provided any evidence that what they saw or heard was real. As a matter of fact, these types of visions were re-created in a lab environment, demonstrating the effects of too much CO2 in the blood stream when these occur.
Isn't it also odd that others of other faiths see different visions according to their religions? The best explanation we have at this point is an overabundance of CO2 in the blood stream.

The brain does strange things when it is deprived of oxygen.
Docs say there's no way the brain could survive that long, though, without the heart pumping. These cases usually show no brain activity on an EEG.
