I'm just curious. I'd love to hear some thoughts on this. How far off the mark of orthodoxy does one go before they are no longer a Christian denomination and are instead a different religion?

According to the RCC all that accept Jesus and are baptized are catholic and will be saved. They go as far as to include the two other Abrahamic religions (Jews and Muslims).

Well, if we break down the word "Christian" what do we get? Of Christ. Anyone who centers their beliefs on Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah and Son of God is a Christian.
Any dogmatic rigidity beyond that is just silly bickering over speculation.

Do you think it matters who Jesus is? You say "Son of God". Ok....historically, Christianity has taught he is God. Many "denominations" on this board teach that he is a created being. Is that a concern, in your mind?
"Diversity teaches us to love the differences within others.”
What makes you think that Christianity was ever meant to be a Religion; and not a "way" of life?
Exactly!
A person that lived his or her life in a Christian like manner becomes a Christian even if that person never knew Jesus (through no fault of his or her own). They are also saved.

So Jesus lied when he said that no one gets to God but through him?
The ancient (after 325 AD) definition was anyone outside the Nicene Creed. That's also my opinion. That doesn't mean a person cannot be a Christian that rejects part of the Nicene Creed, but they are often confused and holding some heterodox teachings. That's a dangerous place to be as false doctrine will lead one to either trust in their works and righteousness or fall into idolatry.
