If we knew salvation was so much better than our corporeal life then the suicide rate would be much higher.

Sure, there are people that commit suicide to escape this life. But, many of these folks simply have severe depression.

But, how about others with so-so lives? One would think suicide would expedite the trip to salvation and eternal life. Why wait?

Catholics like myself need to read paragraphs 2280-2283 in the Catechism.

Protestants read Psalms, Jeremiah and Job.

Yes, the Catechism states life is sacred. Why preserve our lives for as long as possible? I get why one would consider life to be sacred, but some may see it as a stepping stone to a better life.

Because people who believe in God, and try to obey his commandments, know that suicide is murder. And murderers shall not inherit the kingdom of heaven. I'm NOT saying everyone who has committed suicide is going to hell, because that's not my place. But sin is sin. And to deliberatly take your own life means you have no faith in God that he will make things better.

Right - believers in God should not do the things that characterize unbelievers, which includes murder.

Nice answer.
