And the verse before that Titus 1:1 "This letter is from Paul, a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. I have been sent to bring faith to those God has chosen and to teach THEM to know the truth that shows THEM how to live Godly lives".
The promise of eternal life is not for everyone, because everyone is not going to accept Jesus as their Savior. And because God is not a lier, hell will be eternal.
Hi ILNC, it was God's good pleasure to reconcile all to Himself which means that it is His intention to reconcile all to Himself. Can anyone or anything defeat God's intention? Is any heart too far gone for God to reach? If it is what does this say about satan, deception, evil, and sin? What is greater light or darkness? Where does God say that hell is eternal? I agree, God is not a liar. Take care and God bless.

ILNC

What is confusing is when you read aeonian as eternal (which means without beginning and end) and also as world which is not eternal in the same sentence - so when exactly did God promise eternal life? before the world (eternal) began? Is the world eternal? Is the world and eternal really the same thing.

Titus 1:1 does not shed any light on this particular translation problem.

Is the aeonian {eternal (world)} life that we receive now?

Also what you being said in Titus 1:1 is not that there are some that will not accept Christ it is that God has not chosen them. God is choosing some to learn the truth and not choosing others.

Hey Shana, yes Romans 1:24-32 tells us there comes a time when God will abandon people who refuse to acknowledge Him.

ILNC I don't see where God has abandoned them, meaning that they are eternally tormented, in an eternal hell. He gives them over to degrading passions and a depraved mind. And those who reject God will suffer the consequences, but even these people are loved by God because it was His good pleasure to reconcile all to Himself. This means to me that there is hope for them and a higher purpose for them. God bless.

It can be confusing due to translation problems. Here is a good article on aeonian and the reasons why it doesn't mean eternal. Thanks for sharing and God bless.

Shana,

I am not really confused about aonian not being eternal I am saying that the translation is confusing when they use the same word aeonian to be both eternal and world - aonian can not be both eternal and world if we accept that eternal means without beginning and end - God is eternal - and world (or age) which is created and will end.

Hi Meerkat, I agree with you, that the problem is the translation. I'm sorry, did not mean to suggest that you were confused about what aeonian mean. Thanks for sharing and God bless

Phil. 2:10,11

"It is because of this also that God has so highly exalted Him, and has conferred on Him the Name which is supreme above every other name, In order that in the Name of Jesus (so that in adoration of the Name of Jesus) every knee should bow, of beings in the highest heavens, of those on the earth, and of those in the underworld, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

L.E: The book by Andrew Jukes is a classic.

Another man of God, Thomas Allin, wrote a remarkable book: Christ Triumphant.
