Amen, Cg and ILNC!!! It's wishful thinking, not Biblical teaching.

“He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one;” (S. Luke 22:36.)

“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up;” (S. John 2:19.)

“He that eateth me shall live by me;” (S. John 6:57.)

“Our friend Lazarus sleepeth;” (S. John 11:11.)

All of which were misunderstood by not a few of those who first heard these words from Christ's own mouth; --knowing too that the words of Holy Scripture, in many places where they seem contradictory, and in its “dark sayings,” (Psalm 78:2; Prov. 1:6.) and “things hard to be understood,” (2 Pet. 3:16.) ever cover some deep and blessed mystery, I see that the question is, not what this or that text, taken by itself or in the letter, seems to say at first sight, but rather what is the mind of God, and what the real meaning in His Word of any apparent inconsistency.

A ton of scripture supports both sides - to know the mind and heart of God, or to argue over written text?

There is no first chance: chance comes from the gambling casinos of this world!

The purpose which our Father has "cherished in His own mind of restoring the whole creation to find its one Head in Him" is rooted in chance? Oh please!

Quote:
It is in Him, and through the shedding of His blood, that we have our deliverance--the forgiveness of our offences--so abundant was God's grace,

the grace which He, the possessor of all wisdom and understanding, lavished upon us,

when He made known to us the secret of His will. And this is in harmony with God's merciful purpose

for the government of the world when the times are ripe for it--the purpose which He has cherished in His own mind of restoring the whole creation to find its one Head in Christ; yes, things in Heaven and things on earth, to find their one Head in Him.

In Him we have been made heirs, having been chosen beforehand in accordance with the intention of Him whose might carries out in everything the design of His own will,

It is not wishful thinking. It is more listening to what God and Jesus have said about sin, death, judgement and resurrection.

We are told to love our enemies,

Luke 6:35 But love ye your enemies and do good and lend hoping for nothing again and your reward shall be great and ye shall be the children of the Highest for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil

Is it kindness to torment eternally in hell?

It is a human reaction to want vengeance. For those that were crucifying Jesus his words were "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do"

Cg81

Repentance and trusting in Christ is more than just saying the sinners prayer. Devils believe that Jesus is Lord but do they do the will of the Father? - No. He is not THEIR Lord, they are not obedient

Every knee bowing and every tongue confessing Jesus is lord is more than just an acknowledgement of who he is it is accepting him as their lord and master. That is when God will be all in all. When all are obedient.

The Knowledge of the Lord shall cover the earth, like waters cover the sea. Some would say, "Yeah, the knowledge doesn't necessarily mean they'll KNOW Him", but if He's ALL IN ALL - then He will have given man the best, namely Himself. The church has an ego problem, in that they do not want all men to have this gift freely given to them, so that they can maintain a position of superiority.

IMHO.
I agree. The message that Jesus was giving was to forgive even 70 times 7 times, but it is a human reaction to limit that forgiveness.

The church seems to like the good things like being kings and priests to God but then after death want to get rid of all the subjects by tormenting them eternally in hell (even after they have acknowledged Christ as Lord) and say that well they sent themselves there. It goes against the message of forgiveness when there is repentence.

.. except for the very important fact that there will no longer be grace and mercy at this time. We are called to accept Him now, not after death.

We cannot limit God's actions to commands He has given to us. He is worthy to do whatsoever He wills, and this includes eternal judgment on unrepentant sin.

See above. There will no longer be forgiveness when God says there will no longer be forgiveness. He is the supreme ruler.

I agree, the Bible clearly teaches hell is never ending.

Yes I agree. Jesus would not have given His life in such a horrific way if hell was not forever.

Excuse me?

Does "His mercy endures forever" sound familiar? It's mentioned 41 times in the KJV.
