I've read pros and cons about this and wondered what goes on out there in other churches. This article link is about secular music in general, I brought up Christmas because it's that time of year. I won't use them in my church. There's enough good Christ-focused songs to use.
Well, we don't sing them in our church but I would not have a problem singing a secular tune or two. As long as the main focus is on Jesus and why he came to earth why would singing "Jingle Bells" bother me?
It's been said that the reason the church has so little influence in the world ... is that world has so much influence in the church. Most folks can probably stand a little Christian music for an hour or so per week ... without feeling too 'religious'
I might answer differently depending on the particular song. In general, I do not think a song or anything else need to throw specific names (Jesus, God, etc) at me in order for it to be used for a God glorifying purpose.
Where I'm from there's two types of believers (not really)... thumpers and shinners. Both love Jesus but and both can give sin a bad name.
...just sayin'
I never liked bluegrass, then I heard the Old Crow Medicine Show, now I'm sold out to it, learning slap on my upright bass, which by the way is going well.
