The bread and cup are not the actual flesh and blood of Christ. They are representative of it. Yes--communion is an object lesson--and illustration of a truth.
I agree, although I would probably take it a step further and say that I believe that when we receive communion, we are renewing the promises we made when we chose to believe in Him as our Savior and were baptized for the remission of our sins. In other words, I see it as a reminder of what He did for us and of our promise to remain faithful to Him.
Once a month. When I first came here it was quarterly. I wanted to do it more often, so we went to monthly. More than that and I believe it becomes something we do out of habit. I have been in churches where I took it weekly--and people didn't consider it a "special" thing. It was just something they did.
When I see threads like this one it becomes evident that many other Christian groups don't have a plan. It seems they do things with no specific direction. Jesus was clear on the last supper and yet literalist folks ignore that.
Congratulations. You streak of making biased anti-Catholic remarks continues.
I was a catholic. That's what communion was to me when I was catholic. It was a ritual that we did mindlessly every single week. We gave no real thought to why we did it--we just did it because that's what we did. I'm sorry if my personal experience offends you.
Catholic theology states that God gives grace through partaking in it.
Because I DON'T want to have communion become a ritual that we mindlessly obey every single week in hopes of it making us holy?
Really now?!
Many do that very thing. I was in a group once that had the prayers for the wine (but they used water) and bread written down and if you missed any word you had to keep reading it until they thought you got it right. The focus was totally on the act's of the men rather than Jesus.

That's not true .... Jesus said "IS" not "represents"
Luke 22:19
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “Thisismybody given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
Matthew 26:27-28
Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Unlike the RC who takes it to the unscriptural level of transubstantiation ... never the less Jesus still revealed it as --------> IS <--------------
and
Jesus connects it with the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins
Isnt the whole point of communion as well to examine yourself in how you are living also. IF you have anger or resentment towards someone, you should not be taking communion until you have a clear heart.

YOU gave no thought to why you did it. That's on you. Many Catholics find great meaning in receiving Holy Communion and it's quite ridiculous to attempt to make it sound like the entire church was full of a bunch of little Vizios.
Now then since I got your attention (modestly pats self on back)
Please go to the Sodom and Gomorrah thread and answer all the questions you've been asked. I simply must know how the 8-year old Jewish girl in Auschwitz got a chance to accept Jesus. (Since you believe she's in hell if she didn't.)
